The DR has many excellent international flight connections to major airports in Europe and the USA! A return ticket from New York typically sells for $400, and tickets from Germany start at €500.

The main airport Las Américas (SDQ / MDSD)
is the closest airport to your volunteer placement location in Samaná or Las Terrenas (travel duration: 2,5 hours)
Courtesy Welcome Service: Our driver will be waiting for you at the gate with your name on a big board and then bring you to the bus terminal nearby and buy your bus ticket! About 2,5 hours later on your arrival at the placement location in Samana/Las Terrenas local staff and volunteers are waiting for you and will take you to your accommodation!
The second most frequented airport Punta Cana (PUJ / MDPC)
is rather far from your volunteer placement location in Samaná or Las Terrenas (travel duration: 6 hours! Often requires an overnight stay in Punta Cana if your flight arrives after 14:00PM since the last buses to Las Terrenas and Samana leave at 18:00PM from Santo Domingo which is 3 hours drive from Punta Cana)
TO GET HERE – IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER: Even though flights can be cheaper to Punta Cana you have to consider additional costs because of the remote location of the airport and and occasional overnight stay! Contact us for more detailed information!

From Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo to our placement location
What happens after arrival at Las Americas airport?
Following immigration: When you pass through customs and walk into the main terminal you will be welcome by our driver, an Aldeas de Paz representative! He operates the welcome, pick-up & transfer service for our volunteers. His English is sufficient and he is extremely helpful and patient. He’s going to be waiting for you with your name on a big board! If your flight arrives late, the driver will wait for you, don’t worry!
Our driver then will take you to the Bus Terminal nearby and will purchase the bus ticket for you! Air conditioned buses and coaches leave several times every day. Travel time is approx. two (2.5) hours to Samana or Las Terrenas where your coordinator/supervisor will be waiting for you at the bus stop and take you to your accommodation!
In case your flight arrives in the evening our driver will bring you to the hotel of your choice. The next day, our driver will pick you up from the hotel and bring you to the Bus Terminal in the center of Santo Domingo where buses leave to Samana and Las Terrenas every day:

Flights to Mexico
Mexico has big international airports and receives flights from all around the world. Our programs are located in small towns and cities. During 2023, we are working on four localities in two areas of the country: 1) Chetumal – the closest airport is Chetumal [Code: CTM].2) The other three can be reached through Mexico City International airports [Codes: MEX and NLU].
From MEX, NLU or CTM airports to my placement location
What happens after arrival at MEX/NLU airport?
Mexico City “Benito Juarez” International Airport [code: MEX] is the closest for Chalma and Malinalco (Travel duration: 2,5 hours). For Valle de Mezquital/Cardonal, it takes an additional hour, although NLU is a better option for this last one. Both airports can also serve as a transit hub to Chetumal airport (1 hour flight from Mexico City to Chetumal).
If you arrive at CTM you will be already in Chetumal City and our local staff will pick you up at the airport exit and take you to the accomodation.

Additional information
Dominican Republic – Entry requirements:
A valid Passport is all you need to enter the Dominican Republic. Citizens from Europe, the US and Canada as well as many other countries DON’T need a visa to enter the Dominican Republic as a tourist visiting and helping out at Aldeas de Paz! However, a return ticket issued for return within 30 days after entry is required! You can easily change the return date later on and stay officially for as long as you plan to join us. You receive a tourist stamp in your passport. The Tourist stamp is valid for an initial stay of 30 days but you are allowed to leave the country anytime later by paying an additional fee for every extra month you remain in the country. This fee will be paid at the airport ON YOUR DEPARTURE in local currency DOP or Dollar / Euro – either cash or by credit card!

10 to 12 months: 90$
13 to 18 months: 120$

Citizens from most countries do not need a visa or can show a US/CANADA/EUROPE valid visa as a waiver. Citizens from Europe, the US, and Canada as well as many other countries DON’T need a visa!
Your initial tourist entry stamp is issued for 180 days.
