Intern abroad; learn valuable skills while applying them

Make a positive impact while learning new skills, interacting with the community and building diverse relationships.

A great way to experience another culture

In addition to short-term volunteer options, Aldeas de Paz also offers internships. Interns generally come for 2-8 months and contact Aldeas de Paz well in advance to inform us of the conditions under which they are doing their internship and the requirements of their university or academic advisor.

Aldeas de Paz is very happy to be in communication with academic institutions and to provide all materials and references necessary for interns to receive course credit for their volunteer work. Certificates are also provided to all interns upon successful completion of their internships.

I found myself spending whole mornings thinking out lesson plans that might engage the students and was continually delighted at how attentive, enthusiastic and interested the students were in lessons. It felt incredible how quickly I struck up a relationship with the students, sometimes eating dinner with them before or after classes and learning as much, if not more from them, as they did from me.

The typical Intern

A typical volunteer needs to be enthusiastic, willing to learn, ready for a challenge, has a desire to take initiative and dedicates a lot of caring and passion to the position. Friendliness, care, commitment and patience are among important qualities. We welcome individual volunteers, families and groups regardless of age, experience or background. You don't have to speak fluent Spanish as we provide full support and 24 hour back-up from our local staff.

To any future readers who is looking to get away from everything you once thought was important, like how many MySpace comments you get on a given day or perhaps schoolwork, this is the place for you.

Specialize or Diversify

Every intern has the opportunity to be involved in as many or as few of our programs and they would like. We encourage interns to form schedules which work for them, and to work in any combination of programs. Volunteers decide how many hours they want to work. We recommend a minimum 3 days a week. You may work as much as 5 days and as many hours you wish. We emphasize that we focus on excellence and not on quantity.

Why we need interns

Volunteers - The driving Force

Interns and volunteers are the driving force of Aldeas de Paz' work, both through their volunteering and through their financial contributions. Interning with us is a great opportunity to work side by side with locals, learn new skills, study Spanish, and immerse oneself in the Latin and indigenous culture. Learn Spanish

Why Intern?

Our NGO Administration program is particularly appealing to interns, however any of our programs can be done as internships. Costs are the same as for volunteers. Read more about our NGO Administration program.
